I started my new job on February 7th with excitement and a lingering cold and back pain. Of course, that's a week into February, so I'll need to back up a bit.
This year we celebrated Groundhog Day in style with an all-day viewing on repeat. Nfkennedy started at 6:00 AM, like Phil does in the movie, but Grayskale and I didn't get there until after 10, but we took the day off from work and it was completely worth it. The final time we watched it dubbed into French.
Then there was a baby shower for Martini's impending offspring. It was possibly the first baby shower I've attended as an adult that wasn't for a coworker. I was utterly charmed by being provided Onesies and markers to draw on them. I wrote out most of "The Jabberwocky" on one of them from memory, but ended up having to verify spelling on some of the nonsense words.
We didn't host a Super Bowl party this year. I am extremely grateful to my friend who did. Thanks! It's nice to watch the ads with people. I tweeted about the ads to absent friends, but I was disappointed that there weren't any pretty maps of twitter-during-the-Super-Bowl this year. I guess that's so 2009
On the Saturday after my first week of work, I met up with my mother and siblings for lunch at a Fuddrucker's. It was the first time we'd all been in the same place in over a year, so it was something of an occasion. I thought I'd been to a Fuddrucker's before when I was touring with the circus, but seeing the place, I think I confused it with a Johnny Rockets or Steak'N'Shake. I didn't expect it to have so much of an arcade. I was surprised to find that Fuddrucker's did have a veggie burger, and it wasn't bad at all. My family gave me the holiday gifts they didn't get a chance to give me in December (I mailed theirs since I didn't want to wait), and I gave my mother and brother their birthday gifts, since they both have February birthdays.
It feels like I spent most of my discretionary time for the rest of February in bars. I went out for drinks with people from my old job twice, and out with friends a couple more times, including a farewell to two friends moving to California. Actually, the baby shower was in a bar, too. I went to a specialty beer and taco night sponsored by BeerAdvocate. I went to brunch at Johnny D's (another bar). And this past Sunday, even though I didn't go to a bar, I did get to try Tactical Nuclear Penguin, a 32% alcohol-by-volume beer that surprised us all by tasting like beer.
Of course, I did have a minor adventure this month as well, but that's been covered.
